This Little Bit of an Odd Wonder is By London Based Writer, Director, Visual Artist, and Computer Animator Ben Wheele Who is a Repeat Offender if You Will here at FYB. It’s No Secret We are Definitely Fans of Mr. Wheele having Showcased some of His Other Work Here Perviously on FYB (Henry Eats and Cigarette_Warning).

Wheele Graduated from The Royal Collage of Art with a Masters in Animation in 2011, and His Films have been Screened at Festivals Internationally, Including Annecy, Pictoplasma, London Intl.Animation Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival and Stuttgart ITFS. Wheele’s work has also been Exhibited at The Sunday Painter Gallery (London), Gazell.io Digital Art Space, and Broadcast on Adult Swim and Channel 4 (UK). He is also the Founder of ‘Studio Ponk’ and Currently Lectures in 3D Animation and Games at Middlesex University.

What DO We Think TALKING HOUSE is About Well…

We believe its a Social Commentary on Ironically the Fact that Human Beings are at Their Core Social Beings. We simply Don’t Fare well on Our own as Anyone Who’s ever Isolated Themselves can tell You. We’ve all been all experienced Intense Feelings that We feel Compelled to Talk to Some Else About. You might have gotten some Good News and are Excited to No End. Perhaps You received some Bad News and You’re fucking Pissed and want to Rage/Vent about it. You could also Be Depressed, Lonely, or Just have to get oUt of Your Own Head for awhile whatever the Base Emotion is We almost instinctively feel the Need so Share Aspects of Our Daily Lives with Those Around Us. Thats why the Bitter Irony of So Called Social Media is it Alienates the User from the Actual Physical World, and the Vital Human Contact We all Crave being Human. We think TALKING HOUSE is a Perfect Example of this Human Base Desire/Compulsion.

Have You ever found something Wildly Entertaining without Actually being about to Explain Why? For Example I have Mentioned one of My Favorite “Jokes” as it were is as Follows:

Why Do Ducks Have Webbed Feet? To Put Out Forrest Fires.

Why Do Elephants have Flat Feet? For Stomping Out Flaming Ducks.

Granted this isn’t what one would refer to as a Joke by Traditional Standards as its Completely Absurd, Makes Absolutely No Logical Sense, and is Completely Void of Any and All Context. Whoever is Responsible for this Joke had a Very Eccentric Sense of Humor, Was Mentally Unwell, or Was Quite Intoxicated at the Time (Our Money is On Intoxicated be it Insanely Drunk, Higher Than Fuck, or Tripping Balls). No Matter the Reason the Joke always makes Me Smile without Fail.

Henry Eats by Ben Wheele has some Similar Features as it Lacks any kind of Context, is rather Absurd, Kind of Oddly Creepy, and God Only Knows what the Point is or Even if there is One to Begin with. It’s Simply a Quirky Little Piece of Animation that’s Best to be Taken at Face Value. Enjoy.

Tidbits For Shits and Giggles: Cigarette Warning

This Intriguing 27 Second Slice of Real World Insanity does Exactly what the Title Says its a Warning Against Smoking Cigarettes/Cigars/Pipes as well as Chewing Tobacco and Dipping.

We all are Aware by Now Cigarettes Don’t Contain Vitamins in Fact They Contain Carcinogens (among other Toxic Shit) that are Agents that Cause a Myriad of Cancers. Cigarettes contain Benzene, Formaldehyde (the shit the Embalm Dead Bodies With), Vinyl Chloride, and Arsenic (Yes the Well Known Poison) just to Name a Few.

This Ad is a Prime Example of Simple Shock Tactics. The Entire Video consists of a Single Shot Zooming in on a Head Thats Engulfed in Cigarette Smoke. As the Camera gets Closer and Closer the Viewer can Hear it ‘s Strained Raspy Breathing as it Apparently Gasps for Oxygen. Once the Head comes into Clear View it is Revealed that the Head has been Decimated by Cancerous Tumors. Enjoy.

FYB’s Salute To Eccentrics Captain Midnight Hacks HBO

On April 27, 1986 a Little after Midnight a Person calling Themselves Captain Midnight Overrode HBO’s Signal. The Signal was Interrupted during the Opening Credit to the Movie The Falcon and The Snowman with a Message Warning Cable Customers (Specifically Satellite Subscribers) against HBO and Showtime’s Billing Practices. The question is Why would someone go to such Lengths and Risk getting in Serious Trouble to Protest Rising Cost of Cable Rates?! It turned out it was a 25 Year Old Young Man Named John MacDougall, and This is The Story Behind the Captain Midnight HBO Signal Hack.

In America before 1972 all Television was Absolutely and Completely FREE as The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) had Determined that the Airwaves are in fact Owned by the Public. The FFC set up Basic Censorship Guidelines to Preserve the Decency of the Airwaves. That all changed in 1972 with the Creation of CABLE TV which required Viewers to have a Cable Hook up in Their Home to be able to View Programming. The Benefit of Cable was there were NO FCC Guidelines so Cable Shows could have Cursing, Intense Violence, and Nudity and one of the First Cable Companies was The Home Box Office (HBO).

At this Time HBO used Satellite Technology to Transmit Information from Main Offices to the Various Cable Companies. Satellite Owner’s learned how to Tap into those Transmissions and were able to get FREE CABLE which believe it or Not wasn’t Considered Illegal! Obviously this Seriously Pissed off HBO who came up with the Solution to Scramble the Signal at the Transmission End and Unscramble it at the Receiving End starting on January 15, 1986. Now Satellite Owners could watch HBO if They opted for HBO’s Satellite Package that required the Purchase of a $395 Descrambler and Then a Monthly Subscription Fee of $12.95 per Month. Needless to Say this caused the Satellite Industry to freak the fuck out and Protest to No End.

Meanwhile a 25 year old Young Man from Ocala Florida named John A. MacDougall who had owned MacDougall Electronics for the Past 2 Years with a Good Bit of Success. Unfortunately John suddenly started to Tank Big fucking Time as the Incentive of Free Cable No Longer Existed, and Satellite Dishes were Big, Ugly, and Took Up a Great Deal of Space. Even with Sales Slipping Down the Shitter John didn’t object to HBO charging for Their Service He just had an Issue with How Much They were Charging. You see on Top of a the Monthly Service Fee Satellite Owner’s paid More than HBO Home Subscribers.

John being a Electronics Engineer managed to get Work as an Operations Engineer at Central Florida Teleport which was an Uplink Service to/for Satellites. On April 27, 1986 from Central Florida Teleport John preceded to Override HBO’s Signal with a Message that remained on Screen for Approximately 4 Minutes Straight before HBO regained Control. The FCC Immediately launched an Investigation, and John starts to Freaking Out More and More as He soon becomes One of Three Prime Suspects in the Investigation. Eventually John is Arrested and Charged in the Incident and then Plead Guilty as Advised by His Attorney. In the End John got off with a Slap on the Wrist with a $5,000 Fine, One Year Unsupervised Prohibition, and a One Year Suspension of His Radio License.

After watching the Video You will see the Company’s Name just adds an Extra layer of Uneasiness to it. The Question still remains Who the fuck Came up with such a Creepy Concept, and Why did They opt t Hire a Sociopath Who Apparently is going through a Psychotic Break to Star in it?! The Imagery makes the Viewer so Uncomfortable that Not even the Calm and Reassuring Voice of the English Gentleman Narrating it Fails to Elevate the Eeriness. Enjoy.

In this Installment of TIDBITS FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES We have a Two for One Special of Sorts as Ghost Song features the Music of David Byrne and the Artwork of Stephen Gammell.

David Byrne is a Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Record Producer, Artist, Actor, Writer, Music Theorist, and Filmmaker who was a Founding Member and Lead Singer (as well as the Principle Songwriter) of the New Wave Band The Talking Heads. Byrne has Released Solo Recordings and Worked in/with Various Artists Mediums including Film, Photography, Opera, Fiction, and Non Fiction. Byrne was also Inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tid Bits For Shits and Giggles: ROBOT STRIPPER

Today’s Up and Coming Technology is bringing Science Fiction Fantasies to Life at an Incredible Rate. And let’s face it when it Comes to Robots the Rule of Thumb is if You Build a Robot and Someone will Try and have Sex with It. Since the Concept of Robots first crossed Scientist’s Minds there has always been a Symbiotic Sexual Component, and this is probably due to the Fact that more times than not Robots are Depicted in a Humanoid Form. Even with the Field of Robotics in its Infancy there a Slew of Video Footage of Stripper Robots (aka Strip Bots) preforming short Strip Routines some even Utilizing a Stripper Pole (Though it seems Solely for Balance Reasons).

We selected this one for a few reasons the first is it’s the Most Human Looking Strip Bot We saw. Another reason was We noticed the Robots Creator/Builder opted to make the Robot Blonde because Blonde Robots must have More Fun Too. Also the Creator/Builder CHOSE to equip the Strip Bot with an Ample Set of Boobs, and Let’s face it Robots are Genderless so the Fact it is Female is the Creators/Builders Decision. Now by Far the Oddest Part about the Strip Bot is it appears to be wearing some sort of Medieval Goblin Mask which raises a couple of Questions. The First would be why the fuck would someone go to all the Trouble of making a Human looking as Possible Strip Bot only to Cover the Face with a Shitty Halloween Mask? Did the Creator/Builders simply Run out of Parts and grabbed whatever was Handy like say a Mask or is this a Eyes Wide Shut situation? Is there a Goblin Fetish that this particular Strip Bot is designed to cater to? We unfortunately will Never Know. Enjoy

Tid Bits for Shits and Giggles: TEDDY HAS AN OPERATION

Sometimes Things are Uncatagorically Funny so We here at FYB decided instead of Letting these Little Bits fall by the Unappreciated Roadside as it were, and instead Decided We’d give them Their Own Stage to Play Out Upon. This is Our Inaugural Installment of Tid Bits For Shits and Giggles featuring TEDDY NEEDS AN OPERATION by Steve O’Brien.

We stumbled over this Little Piece of Absurdity and While it doesn’t exactly fit into any of Our Predetermined Categories We simply couldn’t pass it by. Apparently American Dolls aren’t the Only Dolls that Also have Doctors (or more like Surgeon in this case. We watch as Teddy is Anesthetized with “Bear Gas” and Undergo’s a Rigorous Surgery where the Doctor checks Teddy’s Bon Bon Laye, Play Pouch, Crotch Unicorn, Kidney Crayons, Courage Sack, and Heart.
