Immortal Machine | Dystopian Animated Film (2021)

We are Thrilled to bring You “Immortal Machine”the Third of Three NEW EPISODES (that was Posted just 13 hours prior to this Post) in the Apocalyptic Dystopian Animated Short Film Series By Scottish Writer, Director, Sculpture, Painter,  Artist, and Animator David James Armsby. The Short Film Series (which Ended in 2018 and was Revived in 2020) takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal.

In The Artist’s Own Words:

“You think you understand? All the lies? All the needless atrocities?… No. There is reason, and I want to show you…” Deep in the heart of Autodale lives their Mayor. As old as the town itself, a once great inventor, now a gangly and decaying but undying thing which the townsfolk have long forgotten, but continue to echo his machine-obsessed beliefs. This film follows Autodale’s Exceptional Woman as she journey’s deep down the rabbit hole of the Mayor’s Immortal Machine.

This film was one of the most challenging and taxing projects of my life. The film covers a subject matter that is extremely difficult to pull off from an artistic and technical standpoint. Nothing about the setting, characters or structure of this film was easy to do. That’s actually the reason I’ve put off tackling the heart of Autodale and the Matriarch for so long. I knew to pull it off successfully would require a tremendous amount of time, effort and artistic know-how which I didn’t feel confident I could do. It wasn’t until after finishing my previous and longest animated short film, “Friendly Shadow”, that I finally felt that I was at the skill level required for this gigantic project. I’m not in love with all of it, but overall I think it definitely succeeded. This film is extremely ambitious and grand and I’m extremely proud of the result. I really hope you guys like it too! :D”

“Friendly Shadow”| Dystopian Animated Short Film

We are Thrilled to bring You “Friendly Shadow”the Second of Three NEW EPISODES  in the Apocalyptic Dystopian Animated Short Film Series By Scottish Writer, Director, Sculpture, Painter,  Artist, and Animator David James Armsby. The Short Film Series (which Ended in 2018 and was Revived in 2020) takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal.

The Creator in His Own Words:

“Hello, Citizens of Autodale!” “This Public Service Announcement is following ludicrous concerns and whispers we’ve been hearing as of late. Silly claims of monsters and other loathsome things living within our city walls!” “There are no monsters here, citizens. Not in Autodale!” This film follows a detective that Autodale’s public knows as the “Friendly Shadow”. Autodale makes an effort to keep the monstrous creatures that lurk outside their walls from entering the city but somehow, incursions and attacks are becoming more and more frequent as of late. It appears that one particular monster-breach got very violent very fast and the Friendly Shadow is sent to investigate.

This film was a colossal amount of work, as you can imagine. It’s the longest animated film I’ve ever made. I’ve been working on this project for just over 10 months now and the number of sheer man-hours I’ve put into this one film is something I don’t want to think about. I’m extremely proud of this film, though. It’s very near and dear to my heart. I think it’s a decent film, with a decent story and I’m very chuffed I managed to pull it off. It’s one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever attempted and I think it turned out pretty awesome. I REALLY hope you guys like it too! ^_^”

“Model Citizen”| Dystopian Animated Short Film

We are Thrilled to bring You “Model Citizen”the First NEW EPISODE in the Apocalyptic Dystopian Animated Short Film Series By Scottish Writer, Director, Sculpture, Painter,  Artist, and Animator David James Armsby. The Short Film Series takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal.

From The Creator In Their Own Words:

“What is a Model Citizen? A Model Citizen is a providing father. A Model Citizen is a caring mother, all in service of a scrappy, young boy or girl. A Model Child raised by a Model Family, to become a Model Citizen of their own!” This brand-spanking-new installment of the Autodale series follows the lives of the Robinson family; Autodale’s perfect citizens. I’ve wanted to make an animated short film based around the life-cycle of an Autodale citizen/family for a very long time. We’ve only ever seen Autodale through the eyes of children. All of the other short films in the series focus on skeptical children being successfully brainwashed/indoctrinated into complacency with Autodale’s dystopian ways. This short film doesn’t have that arc. This short film is about the parents. These characters have NO DOUBTS about how this system works anymore…”  -David James Armsby-

“Autodale is BACK!”| Announcement Video

We couldn’t be More Psyched that After Two Very Long Years one of Our Favorite Animator’s David James Armsby has Revived His Apocalyptic Dystopian Animated Short Film Series that takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town of Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal.

In The Creator’s Own Words:

“Hello, citizens of Autodale! It has been a long time…”

“This video is an announcement of what I’ve been working on for the past few months. I have three new Autodale-themed animated short films in the works. The first being an idea I’ve wanted to explore for a while; a look into the lives of the average Autodale citizen. The life-cycle of someone who’s essentially just another cog in the machine. This short is almost completely finished. The second, a detective-noir short film. Autodale’s infamous vigilante, “The Friendly Shadow” investigates a particularly gruesome incident after a monster manages to breach Autodale’s walls. The third will be a continuation of “Don’t Feed the Freaks”. This short film is the one I’m most excited about but it’s also the most subject to change. It’s the only one that I don’t have a finished script for yet and haven’t started animating. At the moment it follows the same character, traveling farther than he ever has before, likely focussing more on the Monarchs than the Freaks this time around.”   -David James Armsby-

“Don’t Feed The Freaks| Apocalyptic Animated Short Film

We are Thrilled to bring You the NEXT and FINAL Installment of the Apocalyptic Dystopian Animated Short Film Series “Don’t Feed The Freaks” By Scottish Writer, Director, Sculpture, Painter,  Artist, and Animator David James Armsby. The Short Film Series takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal.

In The Creator’s Own Words:

“If you’re reading this. If you find this book; I’m sorry but I have no answers. But I can tell you what I’ve seen and what I know”.

A young man travels the lifeless wasteland of what was once civilization. He’s following the breadcrumbs of an apparent thriving society hidden somewhere in the vast, long-dead wilderness. This short was crazy-fun to work on. It was ambitious as hell and was the cause of many sleepless nights but I really got to run with my imagination in a way I feel I haven’t for a while. Just balls-to-the-wall creativity and it was really frustrating and really fun. It’s also a story about isolation and I love to make those, considering around 75% of my short films are about being alone. This short film is fourth in a series I’ve created. The other 3 take place within the walls of Autodale and are more dystopian than apocalyptic.”

“Children’s Toys| Dystopian Animated Short Film

So We are Thrilled to bring You the NEXT Installment of the Dystopian Animated Short Film Series By Scottish Writer, Director, Sculpture, Painter,  Artist, and Animator David James Armsby. The Short Film Series takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal. In this Installment Armsby Introduces a New Kind of “Ugly” that are the Exceptional’s; and How Imagination can Play a Fundamental Role in Uncovering the Horrible Secret of the “System.

From The Creator Himself:

“Imagination. So Powerful. Your children are full of it. Always having their minds drift off into the wonderous and magical expanse of their creativity. Often visualising brilliant and terrible things. Impossible things.” This film is a sequel/spin-off to two previous animations of mine, “Being Pretty” and “No Monsters”. It’s the first of three animated shorts I have planned set in the universe. I honestly forgot how much I like working in this universe. The aesthetic and tone of Autodale is really fun to work with. I know that this short doesn’t really expand on the lore much beyond what we’ve already seen but that’s why it was the idea I told first out of the three. This was a smaller story about manipulation and imagination that I really wanted to tell and I hope you guys enjoy it!”

The Short Film Series takes place in the Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic Town Known as Autodale where the Citizens are Anything but Normal. In The Animator’s Own Words:

“Being Pretty”| Dystopian Animated Short Films Series

FYB is Thrilled to bring You the 2017 Animated Short Film “Being Pretty” that was Created by David James Armsby and takes place in the Fictional Town of Autodale. “Being Pretty” is the First Short Film in Armsby’s Autodale Series, and You better believe We will be Posting the ENTIRE Series Periodically in the Near Future.

Plot Summary: The Film Starts with an Average Nuclear Autodale Family (Mother, Father, Daughter, and Son) in Their Home where the Children are watching a Public Service Announcement on TV. The PSA has been created by the Mysterious Powers That Be Who Run Autodale and Dictate Daily Life to its Citizens. Autodale is a Picture Perfect Place to Live where the Residents Champion Beauty to the Point of Obsession and Persecution of Those Who Fail to Fit the Autodale Mold.

The PSA Starts stating “Hello, Citizens of Autodale! You are Pretty. Your Neighbors, Friends, and Family are also Pretty. But Sadly, Not Everyone is Pretty. Some are Ugly…We, here at Autodale, Do Not want Uglies.” Thusly Anyone Deemed Ugly which constitutes more than Physical Appearance as in Autodale Ugly appears to Include Anyone Considered Undesirable or Defective (examples Ugly, Fat, Old, Deaf, Blind, Gay Etc.)

Armsby had the Following to Say About Being Pretty:

“This animation was extremely fun to work on. I definitely enjoy doing my own original stuff over Overwatch/Rick and Morty Stuff. I hope that this (Like Redone) does well so I can continue doing original animations. It’s so much more fun to explore my own personal creativity. Building this world from the ground up was awesome and I’m quite proud of the final results. This Short explores themes of individualism, innocence, and brainwashing which were very fun to play with; something I don’t think I could do with the restrictive nature of a fan-film. Really hope yo guys enjoy it!”

Enjoy.
