For Shits and Giggles: “Existential Threat” By Sparks

I think its safe to say we have all had day’s where it seemed the universe has dropped its pants, and is taking a colossal cosmic crap on your entire fucking life.  Those are those days you spend going hour after fucking hour wondering “Why Me?” or “What the fuck did I do to deserve this bullshit?” as the universe plays a fucked up game of cat and mouse with your current reality. It can get so fucking intense that you may actually consider that you have somehow offended the Powers That Be (God, universe, fate and so on) and now are being punished in some bizarre manner.

This bring me to today’s post the official music video for ‘The Existential Threat’ by Sparks (also known as Halfnelson), taken from their 2020 album ‘A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip’. Sparks is an American pop and rock duo formed in 1967 consisting of brothers Ron Mael on Keyboards and Russell Mael on vocals. Sparks are known for their quirky approach to songwriting which is often accompanied by sophisticated and acerbic lyrics often about women or Shakespearean literature references, and an idiosyncratic, theatrical stage presence, typified in the contrast between Russell’s animated, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron’s deadpan scowling. The band is also noted for Russell Mael’s distinctive wide ranging voice and Ron Mael’s intricate and rhythmic keyboard playing style. Sparks  have been far more successful in Europe compared to their native United States, though the band maintains a loyal cult following American non the less.

The video for the song was done by none other than one of our favorite animators cyriak. Cyriak Harris, known Mononymously as Cyriak and His B3ta Username Mutated Monty (Harris has been a Regular Contributor to the British Website B3ta since 2004), is a British Freelance Animator and Composer. He is known for His Surreal, Creepy, and Bizarre Short Web Animations with the Frequent Use of the Droste Effect, and Features Original Dance/Electronic Music By Harris as Well.

Enjoy.

MILKMAN (Animated Music Video)

We were Perusing some of the Awesome Animation from David Firth (One of Our Favorite Animators) that He did under the Moniker fatpie2. While We were mucking around We Located this Little Slice of Insanity and Couldn’t Be Happier for It. It’s a Music Video that was Animated by David Firth (aka fatpie2) for the Aphex Twins Song MILKMAN  from the Girl Boy EP as Well as Some Versions of the RDJ Album.

All We can tell You about the Video is well Not a Whole Hell of a Lot. Your Ears hear a Cosmically Melodic Collage Radio Alternative Rock like Song, and Your Eyes see some Horrifically Violent Imagery of Murder and Mayhem straight out of a Slasher Movie from the 80’s. These Conflicting Messages from the Two Different Senses causes the Brain to Scramble to make Sense of the Vast Contrast in Information. The Video starts like a Kid’s Show Cartoon as the Lyrics pertain to a Milkman and Then a Bit About HIs Wife. After that things get pretty fucking Weird. The Only issue We have with the Song is the Lyrics get fucking Undecipherable, and End up sounding like a Melodious Moan of Sorts. Anyway after We follow the Milkman on His Delivery Route (and Meet His Charming Wife) He is Inexplicably Murdered by a Psychotic Customer at when He Visits Their House for a Delivery. The Killer is a Deformed Inbred Head Case and Necrophiliac Circa the Movie The Hills Have Eyes Who Proceeds to Murder the Shit Out of Everyone He Encounters. The Sick Serial Killer Murders and Mutilates His Various Victims in a Variety of Classic B Horror Movie Methods. So Whats the Meaning of it All? Hell if We Know.

Enjoy.

FYB Wednesday Rockumentary: HEAVY METAL IN BAGDAD (with Bonus Video)

Just the Other Day during some inane Conversation I found Myself involved in I had a Moment of Clarity if You will. As I was trying to Pay Attention to what the Other Person was saying I noticed a Guy wearing an Old School Metallica T-Shirt which Suddenly triggered a Memory I had consciously forgotten about . The Memory was of  a VICE Films Rockumentary I had seen Long ago (So long in fact I couldn’t tell You exactly how many Years its been) called HEAVY METAL IN BAGDAD. So when I got Home I hopped on Ye Olde Internet, Located a Copy of the Film, and I then Rewatched since it had been so goddamn Long since I had first Seen it.

It all Started in 2003 when the Heavy Metal Band Acrassicauda was the subject of a VICE Magazine Article, and with the Magazines Help the Band was able to Stage a Sold Out Show Two Years later in 2005 (Despite Saddam Hussein having recently being Ousted from Power). VICE Filmmakers Eddy Moretti and Suroosh Alvi returned to Iraq in 2006 in an attempt to Track Down Acrassicauda during the Horrific Iraq War. Moretti and Alvi literally risked Life and Limb in Pursuit of The Film as Americans, Reports, and Heavy Metal are all Looked Upon More than Unfavorably (to say the least) by Iraqi Society/Politics.

Acrassicauda is an Iraqi Heavy Metal Metal Band Who Played Live Shows during The Iraq War, and Under the Brutal Rule of Saddam Hussein. After Saddam and His Regime were Removed from Power Acrassicauda experienced a Surge in Fame and Popularity. Unfortunately the Band also Started to Receive DEATH THREATS from Fanatical Islamic Militants (Who believed the Band were SATAN WORSHIPPERS which is Absolutely and Completely False). Due to the Death Threats and the Increasing Violence in Bagdad The Band Members fled to Syria, then Turkey, and Luckily at Last the Band was Granted Refugee Status in America.

Hope You Enjoyed the Heavy Metal Mayhem as Much as We Did.

Cartoons That Aren’t For Kids: The Bad Egg and Molton Light

We start this Installment of Cartoons That Aren’t For Kids with the Award Winning Cartoon “The Bad Egg” Directed by Bala Vikram Veturi. “The Bad Egg” is a Fable of Sorts if You Will, a Cautionary Tale that warns One against  the Consequences of Choosing Greed Over Need. That is to Say Choosing What You Want OVER What You Actually Need. Humanity has always, and especially in Today’s Times confused “Want” with “Need”.

A Prime Example of this is When the Wife of a Good Friend of Mine called Me up one Night Engulfed in Frustration. He Told Me that His Wife WANTED to Buy a New 90 inch TV to replace Their 60 Inch TV for NO OTHER REASON than She simply WANTED a Bigger TV in Reality.

When I asked My Friend about His Wife’s Reaction to Him stating the 90 inch TV was a Unnecessary (and bit impulsive) Purchase at the Time He told Me that once He started to Object She told Him that “They NEEDED the New TV.”, and Honestly thats Exactly what She Believed to be True. The Cliche that “Your Possessions End Up Owning You” could Never be Truer.

The Second Cartoon is Chad Van Gaalen’s “Molten Light” by Chad VanGaalen Who did The Animation as well as Providing the Music Accompaniment. “Molton Light” which also Serves as a Cautionary Tale of Revenge Warning One That Their are Consequences for One’s Actions. That and Some of Those Consequences can Hunt You Down and Kill You.

Hope You Enjoyed These Cartoon’s Cautionary Tales of Greed, Jealousy, Murder, Cannibalism, The Supernatural, and Revenge as Much as We Did.
