“Being Pretty”| Dystopian Animated Short Films Series

FYB is Thrilled to bring You the 2017 Animated Short Film “Being Pretty” that was Created by David James Armsby and takes place in the Fictional Town of Autodale. “Being Pretty” is the First Short Film in Armsby’s Autodale Series, and You better believe We will be Posting the ENTIRE Series Periodically in the Near Future.

Plot Summary: The Film Starts with an Average Nuclear Autodale Family (Mother, Father, Daughter, and Son) in Their Home where the Children are watching a Public Service Announcement on TV. The PSA has been created by the Mysterious Powers That Be Who Run Autodale and Dictate Daily Life to its Citizens. Autodale is a Picture Perfect Place to Live where the Residents Champion Beauty to the Point of Obsession and Persecution of Those Who Fail to Fit the Autodale Mold.

The PSA Starts stating “Hello, Citizens of Autodale! You are Pretty. Your Neighbors, Friends, and Family are also Pretty. But Sadly, Not Everyone is Pretty. Some are Ugly…We, here at Autodale, Do Not want Uglies.” Thusly Anyone Deemed Ugly which constitutes more than Physical Appearance as in Autodale Ugly appears to Include Anyone Considered Undesirable or Defective (examples Ugly, Fat, Old, Deaf, Blind, Gay Etc.)

Armsby had the Following to Say About Being Pretty:

“This animation was extremely fun to work on. I definitely enjoy doing my own original stuff over Overwatch/Rick and Morty Stuff. I hope that this (Like Redone) does well so I can continue doing original animations. It’s so much more fun to explore my own personal creativity. Building this world from the ground up was awesome and I’m quite proud of the final results. This Short explores themes of individualism, innocence, and brainwashing which were very fun to play with; something I don’t think I could do with the restrictive nature of a fan-film. Really hope yo guys enjoy it!”

The Nuclear Family is DEAD Pt.2: Family & Marriage

Provided Here in this Post are Sociological Definitions for the Terminology used Today in the Areas of BOTH Family as well as Marriage.

Family Terminology:

Traditional Nuclear Family: This Family consists of a Biological Mother who stays at Home and a Biological Father who works Outside the Home and Their Biological/Adopted Children.

Nuclear Family (Non Traditional): This Family consists of a Biological Mother and Father and Their Biological/Adopted Children.

Binuclear Family: This Family consists of TWO Households where and Household includes One Parent and Kid(s) and the Other Household includes the Other Parent and the Kid(s)

Family of Origin: A Family into which You are Born or Brought into Through Adoption.

Single Parent: A Family consisting of a Single Mother/Father and Kid(s) the Other Parent is Not Involved (Example: a Dead Beat Dad)

Blended Family: This Family consists of Individuals who Marry and Bring Children from a Previous Marriage.

Extended Family: This Family consists of TWO or MORE Generations of Close Relatives Living Together in ONE Household.

Marriage Terminology:

Marriage: In America, Marriage Historically has been Defined as a Legally Recognized Social Union between a Man and a Woman who meet the Specified Age Requirements and Who are NOT Legally Married to Another Individual. Today the Language between a Man and a Woman is NO LONGER a Valid Part of the Definition.

Same-Sex Marriage: The Union between Same Sex Couples Legally Recognized Nationwide. On June 27, 2015, The Supreme Court ruled in Favor of Same-Sex Marriage Nationwide. States NO LONGER have the Option to Ban Same-Sex Marriages. The Term Same-Sex Marriage may also be OUTDATED as lets face it Marriage is Marriage Regardless of Sexual Orientation. Love is Love Plain and Simple.

Arranged Marriage: A Marriage Planned and Agreed to by the Families or Guardians of The Bride AND Groom who have Little or No say in the matter Themselves. This is NOT THE SAME AS FORCED MARRIAGE.

Forced Marriage: Is a Marriage in which One OR MORE of the Parties Involved is Married WITHOUT Their Consent OR Against Their Will.

Polygamy: Is the Practice of having MORE than 1 Marriage Partner. Polygamy is ILLEGAL IN ALL 50 STATES, But Non the Less IT IS Still Practiced Today.

Polygyny: Is a Form of Polygamy that Involves the Practice of a Man having MULTIPLE WIVES at the Same Time.

Polyandry: Is a Another Form of Polygamy which Involves the Practice of a WOMAN having MULTIPLE HUSBANDS st the Same Time.

Common Law Marriage: Marriage by Mutual Agreement between a Cohabitating Woman and Man without a License OR Ceremony. Common Law Marriage is Currently Recognized in 10 States as a Legitimate and Legal form of Marriage.

Partner Choice Terminology:

Homogamy: The Practice of Choosing Partners LIKE Ourselves.

Heterogamy: The Practice of Choosing Partners that are DIFFERENT from Ourselves.

Endogamy: To Marry WITHIN One’s Own Social Group.

Exogamy: To Marry OUTSIDE of One’s Social Group.

Interracial Marriage: To Marry Someone of a Different Race.

Interclass Marriage: Marrying Someone of Another Social Class.

Interage Marriage: Marrying Someone at LEST 10 YEARS OLD OR YOUNGER than Yourself.

Interreligious Marriage- To Marry Someone of Another Religion then Yours.

The Nuclear Family is DEAD.

The So Called Nuclear Family is Extinct a Relic from the Past. The Nuclear Family also Referred to as The Traditional Family Consisted of a Heterosexual Husband and Wife, 2 Kids, House in the Suburbs, White Picket Fence, and a Dog Named Spot. The Husband was the Provider who went to Work Everyday while the Wife was a Housewife who stayed Home to Raise the Children and Tend to the House (aka Cleaning).

Over the Decades from the 1950’s to Today Society has Undergone Countless Changes and Restructuring. The Nuclear Family Norm is Long Gone and Almost completely Forgotten wading Fast into the Past. Some of the Characteristics of such Changes in the American Family Structure from 1960 up to 2019 are as Follows.

The Median Age at the Time of Marriage in 1960 was 23 for Men and 20 for Women. Today the Median Age at Marriage is 29 for Men and 27 for Women
2.The Median Size of the Family relating to the Number of Children Fell from 4 in 1960 to 1.7 2019.
More People are Choosing to Remain Single rather than to Marry.
More People are Marrying at a Later Age
The Increase of Cohabitation.

6. The Increase in Cohabitators with Children (44%)

7. The Increase in Childless Couples

8. Fewer Children Overall in Modern Families of Today.

9. The Increase in Same Sex Marriage

10. The Increase in Mothers with Young Children employed Outside of the Home.

Structural-Functional Theory Vs. The Conflict Theory

Note To Reader:

Before or while reading the following article you must remember its based on a random photography of a “Typical American Family”.

The photo is a simple one, a family portrait.

The Mother and Father are standing side by side with their arms around one another. Positioned in front of them are their 3 children. The eldest child their son, 2 young daughters one around 10 years of age is the middle child, and a the youngest child a girl aged about 5 years. Also in the photograph are the family’s 2 Golden Retriever sitting in the lower right hand corner.

The 2 sides of the photo’s story:

The family in the photograph are an example of an American traditional nuclear family. It consists of a father, a mother, the son (the eldest of the three children) ,and the family’s two young daughters ( the middle child and the youngest/baby) along with two golden retrievers. Now the question at hand is how would this family in the photograph stand up to The Structural-Functional and Conflict theories, what could they tell us about this family?

The Structural-Functional theory would champion the family in the photograph, as the Structural-Functional theory believes that the traditional nuclear family is the only family that provides social institution, social solidarity, shared values and socialization. The biological father is the bread winner/sole income, the biological mother stays at home raising the children and managing household duties, and they have three biological children. The parents are providing (at least as we can tell from this single photograph) the three essential functions of a family which are raising their children responsibly, providing economic support (from the fathers work outside of the house) and giving emotional support. The traditional nuclear family is so instrumental in the structural-functional theory that according to said theory all other family models are considered to be detrimental to society and smooth functionality.
On the other hand, the family in this photograph would detested by the conflict theory specifically due to the fact that it is a traditional nuclear family (though 77% of all American households are not the traditional nuclear family model). Conflict theory would state the problem with this, or any, traditional nuclear family lies in the gross power imbalance between the father and the mother. Conflict theory would say society gives the father more power outside the home as the sole bread winner, but also the father subsequently has more power in the home as the “Man of the house” while the mother is resigned to being a second class citizen who’s only responsibility is to take care of children and clean the house. Not only is there a definite power imbalance between the two parents, but there is also an unfair power imbalance between the family’s three children. Traditionally male children are given significantly more freedom and female children have many more restrictions placed on them. Thus according to the conflict theory all other family types are far more preferable as opposed to the traditional nuclear family.
